Replacing A Garbage Disposal
The main objective of the garbage disposal is to break the food particles into small particles so that they can travel into the sewer system with rest of the waste water of the house. Hence, you can well understand that a garbage disposal is of importance because this process helps in the elimination of unwanted food odors. At the same time, when you use garbage disposal for certain types of food it reduces the weight of your trash bag. Similarly, with your garbage disposal you can be sure that your plumbing connections will not be harmed due to unwanted clogs. So, it is important that your garbage disposal functions properly.
Usually, garbage disposals are meant to last for 10 to 12 years but sometimes they might start malfunctioning before they reach their lifespan. Similarly, it is also possible that the garbage disposals continue to function even after their usual life span. However, irrespective of the time period for which a garbage disposal runs, it is possible that you will need to replace your garbage disposal at some point of time.
However, before you decide replacing your garbage disposal you need to be aware of the signs which tell us that it is time to replace your garbage disposal.
For instance, when you start experiencing foul odors from your garbage disposal continuously, it means that the system fails to break down the food items. Thus, the rotting food items stay below the disposal and create a foul smell. In fact, sometimes the smell is so strong that it spreads to the entire kitchen.
Similarly, when there is water leaks from the garbage disposal, the causes could be many and only a plumber will be able to detect it. However, in most cases it is seen that when there is continuous water leak from the garbage disposal it calls for replacement of the appliance.
It is possible that after using a garbage disposal for some time it refuses to start and you need to use the reset button every time you are using the disposal. This is when you will know for sure that something is wrong and you will either need to call a plumber to repair it or replace the garbage disposal altogether.
Strange noises at the same time are another indication that you will need to replace your garbage disposal. Especially, if you hear sounds of metal rattling against each other it means that damage has occurred to the moving parts of the disposal. And it may so happen that you will have to replace the existing disposal with a new one.
Last but not the least, always keep in mind that it is imminent to replace a garbage disposal with a new one when there is the need. This is because if timely replacement does not take place it might wreak havoc to the plumbing system of your home. However, always take advice from an expert plumber before you decide to replace your garbage disposal.
